Pre-configured Dell servers on the way to EMEA

Dell has boosted its enterprise technology portfolio, with an expanded lineup of virtualisation and high-performance computing (HPC) offerings.
The Austin, Texas-based technology giant has released a new batch of PowerEdge servers and EqualLogic PS4000 storage arrays, which comes in several different drive configurations, ranging from the PS4000E that supports 7,400 revolutions-per-minute (RPM) Serial ATA, the PS4000X which supports 10,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI, and the PS4000XV which supports 15,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI.
“IT departments across various enterprises and organisations today are regularly facing the issue of how they can both effectively, and yet cost efficiently, manage their departments, a particular concern in today’s economic climate," said Mohamed Halawa, Enterprise Marketing Manager, Dell.
According to a statement released by the company, ‘in the coming months’ Dell is bringing out pre-configured systems for datacentres that combines PowerEdge M-series blades and the EqualLogic PS6000 iSCSI storage array with Cisco Catalyst switches, VMware vSphere 4 and Platespin Migrate from Novell.

“With VMware vSphere 4, even SMBs can now obtain affordable business continuity, improved application quality and deployment, and strengthened security to help ensure their businesses continue to run smoothly," claims Raghu Raghuram, vice president and general managerof the server business unit at VMware.
Small and medium-sized businesses will see an EMEA release ‘in the coming months’ with PowerEdge R710s and PowerVault MD300is and PowerVault DL2000s pre-packaged with Symantec-enabled backup, PowerConnect networking and Microsoft’s virtualisation suite.
Also included in the portfolio is the PowerEdge R410, a HPC rack server which Dell claims provides 'up to 80% performance improvements over last generation servers,' based on testing done in the company's labs with SPECfp_rate_base2006 benchmarks.
"From virtualization to high performance computing clusters, customers are increasingly looking for products that are reliable, powerful, energy efficient and standards-based. Dell delivers on the needs of enterprises providing an affordable portfolio of server, storage and virtualisation products and services that help put them on the fast track to efficiency," added Dell’s Halawa.

On the software side, application management, disaster recovery, virtualisation controls and monitoring are also available, along with consulting services.
