Pre-configured Dell
servers on the way to EMEA
Dell
has boosted its enterprise technology portfolio, with an expanded lineup of
virtualisation and high-performance computing (HPC) offerings.
The Austin,
Texas-based technology giant has released a new batch of PowerEdge
servers and EqualLogic
PS4000 storage arrays, which comes in several different drive
configurations, ranging from the PS4000E that supports 7,400
revolutions-per-minute (RPM) Serial ATA, the PS4000X which supports 10,000 RPM
Serial Attached SCSI, and the PS4000XV which supports 15,000 RPM Serial
Attached SCSI.
“IT departments
across various enterprises and organisations today are regularly facing the
issue of how they can both effectively, and yet cost efficiently, manage their
departments, a particular concern in today’s economic climate," said
Mohamed Halawa, Enterprise Marketing Manager, Dell.
According to a
statement released by the company, ‘in the coming months’ Dell is bringing out
pre-configured systems for datacentres that combines PowerEdge
M-series blades and the EqualLogic PS6000 iSCSI storage array with Cisco
Catalyst switches, VMware vSphere 4 and Platespin Migrate from Novell.
“With VMware
vSphere 4, even SMBs can now obtain affordable business continuity, improved
application quality and deployment, and strengthened security to help ensure
their businesses continue to run smoothly," claims Raghu Raghuram, vice
president and general managerof the server
business unit at VMware.
Small and
medium-sized businesses will see an EMEA release ‘in the coming months’ with PowerEdge
R710s and PowerVault MD300is and PowerVault DL2000s pre-packaged with
Symantec-enabled backup, PowerConnect networking and Microsoft’s virtualisation
suite.
Also included in
the portfolio is the PowerEdge R410, a HPC rack server which Dell claims
provides 'up to 80% performance improvements over last generation servers,'
based on testing done in the company's labs with SPECfp_rate_base2006
benchmarks.
"From
virtualization to high performance computing clusters, customers are
increasingly looking for products that are reliable, powerful, energy efficient
and standards-based. Dell delivers on the needs of enterprises providing an
affordable portfolio of server, storage and virtualisation products and
services that help put them on the fast track to efficiency," added Dell’s
Halawa.
On the software
side, application management, disaster recovery, virtualisation controls and
monitoring are also available, along with consulting services.
